Chapter 1
Lily Bloom, after burying her father, seeks solace on a rooftop. She meets Ryle Kincaid, a handsome neurosurgery student. They share deep personal stories: Lily talks about her abusive father, and Ryle about losing a young patient. Ryle prefers casual relationships, while Lily seeks something serious. Despite their differences, they feel a strong connection. Their chat ends abruptly when Ryle is called back to work, but he takes a picture of Lily before leaving.
Chapter 2
Lily returns home to her annoying roommate Lucy and gets a call from her mother, who pretends Lily got emotional during her father's funeral speech. Lily reads her teenage diary about secretly helping Atlas, a homeless high school senior. Later, her mother calls again, considering moving to Boston, which Lily opposes.
Chapter 3
Six months later, Lily quits her job and uses her inheritance to open a unique flower shop. She hires Allysa, and they quickly become friends. When Lily hurts her ankle, Allysa's brother Ryle, whom Lily met before, shows up. They flirt but decide to stay away from each other because Ryle can't stop thinking about her.
Chapter 4
Lily sprains her ankle, takes pain pills, and reads her old journals about Atlas. As a teen, she often helped Atlas, and they grew close. She recalls trying to stop her father's abuse and finding comfort with Atlas. In the present, feeling sad about Atlas and Ryle, she's grateful for her new friend Allysa.
Chapter 5
Lily takes a week off to heal her ankle. When she returns to her store, she's pleased to see Allysa has done a lot of work. Ryle finds Lily and asks to be close with her just once. They sleep together innocently, but Ryle leaves afterward, apologizing and saying they won't see each other again. Lily feels disappointed but focuses on her flower shop.
Chapter 6
Fifty days later, Lily and Allysa hold a soft opening for the flower shop. Ryle shows up as the first customer, buying flowers, which frustrates Lily. He picks out purple lilies, ironic because of Lily's name. Allysa invites Lily to her party, and Ryle sends flowers to the shop with a note saying, "Make it stop," leaving Lily puzzled.
Chapter 7
At the party, Lily brings her friend Devin as a pretend date. Ryle gets jealous, and Lily confronts him about mixed signals. Later, Ryle carries Lily to his room and confesses he wants to be with her for more than just closeness. They agree not to have too much closeness, but end up falling asleep together. The next morning, Lily learns Ryle is Allysa's brother, leading to an awkward conversation before he leaves for the hospital.
